Membership FAQ

Answers to common questions about joining Deaf in Government.

Who can join

Who can become a member of Deaf in Government?

According to DIG's bylaws (Article III, Section 1), any person who subscribes to DIG's Preamble, Vision, Mission Statement and Bylaws, and who meets one of these qualifications, may apply for general membership with full debating and voting privileges:

  1. Deaf or Hard of Hearing active or retired government and civil service employees, including government contractors, regardless of degree of hearing loss, amount of assimilation into Deaf culture, or mode of communication.
  2. Hearing active or retired government and civil service employees, including government contractors, who are associated or work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees.
  3. Active or retired sign language interpreters, disability program managers or people with similar job titles, administrative officers and associates of the organization.

If you're not a government employee or contractor, you can join for free as a DIG Subscriber.

Do I have to be Deaf to join?

No. DIG welcomes all individuals. You must be a current or retired government employee or contractor to vote in DIG elections.

Do I have to work for the federal government?

No. DIG serves local, municipal, state and federal employees.

What types of membership are available?

DIG offers two free types of membership. A DIG Member is a government employee or contractor, and can vote in DIG elections. A DIG Subscriber is anyone interested in our work who isn't a government employee or contractor. See Join DIG for what each includes.

Why am I not getting emails from DIG?

A few things can cause this:

  • Your agency's firewall may block our emails. Try opening DIG emails on a personal computer.
  • Check your junk or spam folder.
  • You may have given us the wrong email address when you signed up.
  • You may have unsubscribed.

To start getting our emails again, email contact@deafingov.org.
